Dandruff is one thing that can affect your scalp any season. And during the winters, I take extra care to keep my scalp far away from dandruff. There are various reasons why dandruff can affect the scalp, some of which I believe is due to stress, improper brushing of hair, infrequent shampooing and hormonal imbalance.
After trying tons of anti-dandruff shampoo and having huge hair fall, I decided to take the old grandma route. Yes, home remedies are one of the best ways to treat any beauty issue and I have shared my top 5 ways to get rid of dandruff easily. So read further and find out more about home treatments for dandruff.
1. Fenugreek seeds:
This is one of the best treatment for an itchy scalp. Fenugreek seeds are rich in minerals, vitamins that protect your scalp from dandruff and also makes the tresses healthy.
DIY- Soak fenugreek seeds overnight, grind it into a thick paste and apply it directly on your scalp and wear a shower cap. Rinse it after 30 minutes and continue this weekly twice.
2. Baking soda:
Dandruff occurs on an oily scalp too. And to reduce the oiliness from the scalp, baking soda is my go-to home remedy. Baking soda is an excellent exfoliate which will reduce dead skin cells and fight fungi which cause dandruff.
DIY- Take 1 teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply it gently on your scalp and leave it for 20 minutes. Apply this mixture weekly twice and say goodbye to dandruff.
3. Aloe vera:
Aloe vera is a beauty arsenal and one of the best treatment for dandruff. It has fungicidal properties that will kill the fungi and clean the scalp from dead skin cells. Also, aloe vera will bring a shine and smoothness to your tresses.
DIY– Extract the aloe vera pulp from the plant and apply it directly to your scalp and hair strands. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and wash with shampoo. Do this whenever you wash your hair.
4. Multani mitti:
If you were using multani mitti only for your face, it is time you applied it on your scalp too! Yes, multani mitti or Fuller’s earth will cleanse your scalp and keep the grime, dirt and fungi away.
DIY- Mix one tablespoon of multani mitti and water and make a thick paste. Apply it all over your hair and cover it with a shower cap. Rinse your hair after 30 minutes. Do this regularly for quick results.
5. Tea tree oil:
Tea tree oil is holy grail ingredient for your hair. It has antibacterial properties, that will slough away the flakes, dandruff and keep your scalp squeaky clean.
DIY- Apply 2-3 drops of tea tree oil on your hair and gently massage your scalp. Leave it for 10 minutes and wash your hair with shampoo followed by conditioner.
