5 Home Remedies for Skin Whitening (Lightening) For Indian Skin

I don’t really believe that fairness can be the reason of a girl’s beauty, but I do understand that being a tropical kid sun tan is quite natural and to lighten the sun tan skin whitening/ lightening is important. Moreover, when my skin turns dull and unappealing I often opt for home remedies that would brighten my skin instantly. I am a DIY fanatic and can’t stop experimenting with new home remedies. And being the wedding season, I felt this post would be perfect for brides, bridesmaid and even bride’s mom to lighten their skin tone.

Before you indulge in these home remedies I would insist on a few important factors- always wear a sunscreen when you step out of your face (I still forget), exfoliate your skin once or twice a week, massage your face every night to stimulate blood circulation and the most important drink loads of water and exercise!

With these important factors, you will notice a good change in your skin, now let’s come back to the top home remedies, that I have tried to lighten my skin tone:

1. Gram flour, honey, and turmeric:

I completely rely on this fabulous DIY, it has three powerful ingredients-gram flour, honey and turmeric that lighten the skin tone, moisturizes the skin and even sloughs off the dead skin cells. Since there is no liquid ingredient in this skin whitening recipe I add rose water, apple cider vinegar and apply it on my face twice a week. I notice an instant glow and definitely recommend this home remedy for dry skin, oily skin beauties.

2. Lemon and honey:

Honey seals the moisture level in the skin, whereas lemon fights bacteria and other impurities on the skin, leaving your skin dewy and bright. You can use lemon water as a toner which will keep your skin radiant. Coming to the face pack- mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and apply it for 15 minutes. Do this on a daily basis and say goodbye to dull skin. If your skin is sensitive dilute lemon juice with water and then apply on your skin.

3. Papaya with honey:

I guess I am in love with honey 😛 but seriously honey will change your complexion and I recommend organic honey which is pure and safe on the skin. Papaya has a holy grail ingredient- papain that will slough the dead skin cells and promote healthy skin cells. Also, papaya has bleaching properties that will work on skin lightening. Extract the pulp out of papaya and mix it with 2 teaspoons of honey. Smear the mixture on your face and leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse with water and moisturize. This home remedy will suit oily, combination and sensitive skin ladies.

4. Yogurt and Multani mitti:

Oily skin girls can definitely try this home remedy for skin lightening which will not only brighten their skin, but even control the sebum production and pull out the impurities from the skin. I rely on this face pack for skin whitening within a short period of time. Yogurt has lactic acid that has bleaching properties which will lighten your complexion faster. Mix 1 tablespoon of Multani mitti with 1 tablespoon of yogurt and get a thick paste. If it is too thick, add rose water and slather all over your face, rinse after 20 minutes.

5. Sandalwood and rose water:

Sandalwood has skin brightening properties that will brighten the skin, reduce the melanin production and work on skin lightening. Rosewater will freshen and soothe your skin. Apply the thick paste of the pack for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water. Make sure you use this face pack 2-3 times a week, also this is the perfect home treatment for sensitive, combination, oily and dry skin.
